Bath & North East Somerset Council has installed two new zebra crossings in Bloomfield Road, Bath.
The crossings at junctions with St Luke’s Road and Englishcombe Lane have replaced existing pedestrian island crossing points and now provide a safer place to cross.
Footways near the crossings have been resurfaced and widened at points, new bollards have been installed, improvements to drainage have been made and high-friction surfacing has been added to the approaches at both crossings.
The council has introduced these crossings after feedback from residents highlighted safety concerns over the existing crossing points, pedestrian sight lines and vehicle speeds.
Initial designed proposals brought forward by the council were changed following feedback from public consultation events.
Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for highways, said: “We’re always looking to make our roads safer for everyone and improve our highway network. These crossings will have a really positive impact on people in that area and I’m pleased to see other schemes like this being delivered across Bath & North East Somerset.”
Elsewhere the council has recently completed works to improve crossing points and install a new parallel crossing in the centre of Radstock. Works to build a new zebra crossing on Whiteway Road in Bath began on Monday.
