This 250-year-old Palladian mansion has been used as a hotel for years - but now it is for sale and could be converted back into a massive home.

Ston Easton Park, in Radstock, is described as “one of the most impressive houses in the West Country”.

The Grade I-listed mansion house was built in 1769 by John Hippisley-Coxe, who also undertook renovations to enlarge the original Tudor house which used to be on the site.

The grounds, which consist of approximately 28 acres of gardens and parkland, were landscaped by famous 18th century designer Humphry Repton.

The property, which is licensed for both hotel use and residential use, could be used as a grand country home, or could continue to be used as a hotel, as it has been since the 1970s.

Ston Easton Park, which spans four storeys, also comes with a Grade II-listed gardener’s cottage and a Grade II*-listed coach house.

Inside the mansion, the ground floor contains an entrance hall, a drawing room, a sitting room, a morning room, a library, a study, a breakfast room, a kitchen, a dining room, a small bedroom, two WCs and a pantry.

Upstairs, the first floor is made up of 12 bedrooms and eight bathrooms, with a further six bedrooms and four bathrooms on the second floor, plus a mezzanine floor containing an additional bedroom and bathroom.

There is also a lower ground floor, which would have once been the servants’ quarters and is now made up of a housekeeping room, an office, a staff room, an Edwardian kitchen, a games room, a snooker room, a wine cellar, a lamp room, a garden room and three bathrooms.

In the grounds flows the River Norr, with two stone footbridges, while elsewhere in the grounds are two greenhouses, a rose garden, an arboretum, an orchard and a tennis court.

The property has been brought to market by Knight Frank, who have listed the building at a guide price of £5,500,000.

James Crawford, of Knight Frank’s Country Department, said: “Ston Easton has to be one of the most impressive houses in the West Country with a Palladian façade and interiors to rival any of its type.

“Until recently, the property has operated as a country hotel, but as it has C1 and C3 use classes, could be adapted for use as a grand private residence.

“The estate extends to 28 acres and includes a listed coach house and a charming gardener’s cottage within the grounds.”
