Volunteers from Somer Valley FM, the local community radio station based in Midsomer Norton, embarked on an 80 kilometre walk over the Bank Holiday weekend to raise funds for the station garden.
The volunteers from Somer Valley FM linked up with several other community stations in the region, including: Glastonbury FM, Access FM, Apple FM and 10Radio. The walk took them from Midsomer Norton High Street to Glastonbury, Bridgwater, Taunton and to their final destination, Wiveliscombe.
Day one saw the group venture off to Glastonbury. The walkers included Selina Cross, Luke Barnes, Pete Helmore, Bill Haywood, Alan Woodbury and marathon runner, John Reynolds. Presenter, Luke Barnes, said: "It was a good start until we got to Chilcompton, then we got a little lost. We were scheduled to arrive at Glastonbury FM at 3 p.m., but we didn't make it until 6. 30 p.m."
Fortunately, the second stretch was a bit easier, more walkers joined the group and the volunteers managed to reach their destination at Access FM, in Bridgwater, in good time. The third leg of the walk saw the group being joined by Craig from Apple AM before they eventually finished off in Wiveliscombe on Sunday, 5th May. The walkers were greeted by locals and presenters from 10Radio where a live show was simultaneously broadcast on Somer Valley FM. The walk has so far raised an estimated £400 for the station's garden. To donate, visit: http://www.somervalleyfm.co.uk">www.somervalleyfm.co.uk
