MIDSOMER Norton Town Council recently awarded £6,000 in grant funding to seven local community groups during its latest council meeting. 

The grants aim to support various community services and projects, including £1,000 for the Somerset Farmers Market, £800 for the Midsomer Norton Rugby Football Club to provide kits for the new ladies' touch rugby team, and £3,500 for health and wellbeing groups like Dial-A-Ride and HeartTalks CIC.

Town Mayor Councillor Martyn Plant said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support so many groups with meaningful contributions to their services and projects. The grants are intended to contribute to the good work being done by many in what are tough times financially.”

The council received requests totalling over £16,000 and awarded grants as follows: Dial A Ride got £1,000 for wheelchair clamps; Somerset Farmers Market received £1,000 for revenue; MHA Communities was given £782.40 for new activity sessions for older people; Midsomer Norton Netball Club received £500 for equipment and court hire; Swan Advice Network got £983 for transporting residents; Midsomer Norton Rugby Football Club received £800 for women’s rugby kits; and HeartTalks CIC received £1,000 for a new facility.
