SOMERSET Council is doubling down on support available to drink and drug users seeking positive lifestyle changes.

Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) and Turning Point want to provide harm reduction advice for people so they know the risks, can make decisions about cutting back and gaining back control.

In partnership with Somerset Council, SDAS set up information stands with staff and peer mentors at Musgrove Park and Yeovil hospitals, as well as Job Centre Plus locations throughout January.

SDAS provides free, confidential, and non-judgmental support tailored to individual needs.

Users can access one-to-one support, evidence-based programmes, timely help - the goal is to connect with people within five to 10 days of referral – and comprehensive support.

Turning Point’s Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) is commissioned by Somerset Council and provides free and confidential support for adults, children and families affected by alcohol and other drugs.

The service has two main hubs in Taunton and Yeovil, plus a satellite office in Street that is appointment only. Offices are open 9am to 5pm, offering face-to-face and telephone appointments. There is also one late night opening on a weekly basis, usually on a Wednesday from 5-7pm, with appointments available outside of working hours.

Supporting communities for over sixty years, Turning Point currently operates in over 300 locations across the country, working with more than 100,000 people to improve their health and wellbeing.

A representative of SDAS said: “We understand that taking the first step can be a daunting one but know that you are not alone. Our dedicated team of friendly professionals provide free, confidential, and non-judgemental support.”
