Residents wishing to vote are being reminded to check they are on the electoral register in time for the local elections on 4th May.

Bath & North East Somerset Council is reminding those who are not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered before the deadline, at midnight on Monday, 17th April.

Everyone who is registered should have received a poll card in the post. If you haven’t received a poll card, you may not be registered to vote, or your details may need updating on the electoral register.

You can check if you are on the electoral register by calling 01225 477333 or emailing [email protected]. Anyone not registered can call 01225 477333 or apply online. It only takes five minutes to register on the GOV.UK website.

This year residents will be voting to elect:

  • Councillors to Bath & North East Somerset Council, who serve and represent the views and interests of their local residents, and make important decisions to ensure that the community gets the right services,
  • Town and Parish Councillors, who make decisions on more local issues affecting their town or parish

Will Godfrey, Returning Officer for Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “Local elections are an important opportunity for residents to have a say on who makes decisions about issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in Bath and North East Somerset. Please make sure that you are registered to vote, especially if you have just turned 18 or moved house recently. If in doubt, contact us on 01225 477333 or [email protected].”

This May for the first time, residents voting at a polling station will need to show photo ID. A list of accepted forms of photo ID is available on the Council website www.bathnes.gov.uk/voterid or by calling 01225 477333.

Voters without an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate online via Gov website or by completing a paper form.

They can also apply for the certificate in person at the following Council offices:

  • The Guildhall in Bath
  • Bath Housing, Welfare and Advice Service on Manvers Street
  • Keynsham Information and Advice Service
  • Midsomer Norton Information and Advice Service

The deadline to apply for a certificate for the May elections is 5pm, Tuesday, 25th April. More information about photo ID can be found on the Council website.
