THE Rotary Club of Midsomer Norton and Radstock recently hosted a talk on a charity dedicated to supporting individuals with hearing difficulties in Zambia.

On Friday, October 4, the club had the pleasure of hosting Dr Katebe, director of audiology at Specsavers and his wife, Joyce, a researcher at the Bath Royal United Hospitals, at their speaker lunch meeting at The Redan. They both spoke on the charity they have formed to help people in Zambia that suffer from hearing loss.

The Zambian Hearing Disability Improvement Project’s (ZAHDIP) mission is to transform lives by providing better hearing by conducting free hearing tests and providing hearing aids to restore the joy of sound and the ability to connect with the world for those in need.

For those with impaired hearing, everyday tasks become challenging, communication is hindered, and opportunities for education and employment are limited. The lack of access to hearing aids perpetuates the cycle of poverty and exclusion for the deaf and hard of hearing.
