Police have launched an investigation into a brutal assault which left a man with a fractured jaw in Frome.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for anybody with dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident in Trinity Street, on Friday, June 14, to come forward.

A man was taken to hospital where he required surgery after being assaulted by three men at about 8pm, police said.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: “A 27-year-old man suffered serious facial injuries after being assaulted in Frome.

“The incident happened in Trinity Street at around 8pm on Friday, June 14. 

“The victim was assaulted by three other men and suffered a fractured jaw, which required surgery.

“The only descriptions we currently have of the offenders are that they’re all men and in their twenties.

“An investigation is underway and we’re appealing for any witnesses to this incident, especially anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage, to come forward. “

A local resident, who heard commotion outside at the time of the incident, has spoken of her shock at the nature of the injuries sustained by the victim.

They said: "I heard some loud shouting and screaming in the mid to late evening on Friday (June 14) and am shocked to hear what had happened.

“I hope whoever did such a thing gets caught and the victim makes a full recovery" 

Avon and Somerset Police has published crime figures online at police.uk, with the last available statistics showing a total of 262 crimes were recorded in the town in April this year. Of this figure, 86 reports related to violence and sexual offences, 73 reports related to shoplifting, and 27 reports related to public order offences. A total of 76 other reported incidents relate to ‘all other crime’.

Police also announced earlier this month that a man, 28, who had committed 15 thefts from shops in Frome has been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Ashley Wells, of Selwood Road, in Frome, was handed the two-year-long order at a hearing at Taunton Magistrates’ Court last month.

The order, which was obtained by the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and was supported by the Frome Neighbourhood Team, has a number of conditions which Wells has to abide. He also also been jailed for three months.
