Ston Easton Park, Ston Easton, Radstock BA3 4DF is open on Wednesday, 30th March from 10.30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This garden has been described as a hidden treasure in the heart of the Mendips. Early spring brings snowdrops and hellebores in abundance along with other spring flowers. Whether you prefer to take a leisurely stroll along the little known cascading River Norr, or an invigorating walk through the wooded parkland to the old Ice House, there’s a great deal to see and enjoy, maps are available for guidance. Possibly Oscar, the hotel’s pet dog, will be your guide! The terrain is unsuitable for those with mobility restrictions due to gravel paths, grassed walks and steep slopes.
The parkland at Ston Easton Park is now the only remaining Humphry Repton landscape in Somerset. A facsimile Repton’s ‘Red Book’, demonstrating his plans in ‘before’ and ‘after’ stages illustrated in wonderful watercolours, can be found in the hotel reception, please ask if you wish to view it.
The superb Palladian Mansion, set in one of the West Country’s most romantic estates, Ston Easton Park, warmly welcomes visitors to the NGS open gardens to pop inside for light refreshments and to enjoy the splendid rooms, the listed Grade I Victorian Kitchen is to be found in the basement. If you would like lunch or full afternoon tea, prior booking is essential, please ring 01761 241631. Further details of this and other open gardens can be found on www.ngs.org.uk
