PEOPLE across Somerset experienced a disrupted weekend with Storm Darragh bringing winds in excess of 90mph to parts of the UK today (Saturday, December 7).
The Met Office issued a series of warnings for most of the country, with a danger to life ‘red’ wind alert in place for West Somerset, the Bristol Channel and South and West Wales, yesterday morning.
Dozens of trees were brought down across the country, hundreds of homes have been left without power, and homes on the coast which bore the brunt of the storm’s ferocity were urged to ‘act now’ amid a series of flood warnings.
The worst of the weather is now behind us, but a Met Office yellow warning for wind remains in place.
The Met Office on what should be expected
- There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs

- Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
