FAMILIES can enjoy a summer of art, craft, and history at the Roman Baths and Victoria Art Gallery, with hands-on activities for younger visitors throughout the school holidays.

Councillor Paul Roper, Cabinet Member for Economic & Cultural Sustainable Development, said: “We’ve got a packed programme of activities for the whole family to look forward to this summer. The sessions at the Victoria Art Gallery are completely free – just drop in on the day. The Roman Baths activities are included in admission, which is free for local residents with a Discovery Card.”

Roman Baths:

Guests can enjoy family activities themed around Roman writing and language at the museum, included with Roman Baths admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and drop-in sessions run from 10 am – 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm – 4 pm.

  • Scribbling Scribes (24-26 July): Learn Latin and make a door plate.

  • Super Scrolls (29 July - 2 August): Create a Roman scroll.

  • It’s All Yours (5-9 August): Make a mosaic book plate.

  • Ex Libris (12-16 August): Craft a Roman bookmark.

  • Caesar’s Secrets (19-23 August): Decode messages like Julius Caesar.

  • Scribbling Scribes (26-27 August): Learn Latin and make a door plate.

Victoria Art Gallery:

Visitors can join the free craft sessions inspired by the Toulouse-Lautrec and the Masters of Montmartre exhibition. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and drop-in sessions run from 10.30 am – 2 pm. While the craft activities are free, the exhibition requires a ticket.

  • Lautrec and Friends (24-26 July): Design outfits for exhibition characters.

  • Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (30 July - 2 August): Make a Plasticine cat.

  • Windmill from the Moulin Rouge (6-9 August): Create a 3D windmill.

  • Top Hats, Monocles, and Moustachios (13-16 August): Dress up like Toulouse-Lautrec.

  • Feathery Fun (20-23 August): Make a colourful headdress.
