Lisa Stacey, a local artist starting out her tattooing journey as an apprentice at Silver Street Tattoo Studio in Midsomer Norton, recently had her art featured in an exhibition at the Business Design Centre in London.
The exhibition, named ‘Time’, was held from the 6th to the 15th of April. Its purpose was to encapsulate what it means to be part of the brain tumour community. Lisa had a close friend who was diagnosed with a brain tumour during lockdown. Lisa, who has always had a passion for art, said, “I started drawing, purely for my own enjoyment in lockdown and put a few of them up on social media. A few people asked me to do portraits for them - pet portraits, that sort of thing. I didn’t really want to at first because it wasn’t something I was trying to make money from, but when my friend was raising money for Brain Tumour Research and The Brain Tumour Charity, I started auctioning a few pieces off to help out, as well as taking requests in exchange for a donation to charity”.
The Brain Tumour Charity found out about this and invited Lisa to their exhibition, which featured many forms of art, including photographs, paintings, scans and sculptures. All pieces were submitted by people who had been affected by a brain tumour, to help raise awareness of The Brain Tumour Charity’s mission to defeat brain tumours.
Lisa submitted four pieces in total for the theme.
Now using her portfolio to forward her career as an artist, Lisa is learning to tattoo at Silver Street Tattoo Studio. To view more of her work and follow her tattooing journey, follow her Instagram: @ just_here_tattooing
