Coleford Revival Group will be hosting a 'Walk Down Memory Lane', an evening of nostalgia celebrating the history of the village.

The evening will also coincide with the reprinting of Coleford as 'twere, a local history book published by the Coleford Oral History Group in 2000, with the reprint sponsored and organised by resident, Robin Bradbury, who is celebrating his ninetieth birthday this June.

The Oral History Group, under the chairmanship of Mrs Jean Lee and inspired by David Higgs, had produced this account of the Parish during the early years of the last century, right up to the onset of the two World Wars. The book proved to be a roaring success, with a great collection of old photographs, stories and drawings from the past. A quick reprint was organised and in just a few months, all the stock was sold and residents have been borrowing copies from each other ever since.

The updated edition includes old photographs, anecdotes from villagers and maps of the Parish showing many of the old points of interest. The book is available by calling Robin Bradbury on: 01373 813713 and can be either hand delivered or posted. Any surplus funds will be spent for the benefit of the whole Parish.

A Walk Down Memory Lane takes place on Friday, 5th June, at the Coleford Royal British Legion Hall, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6.30 p.m. and is a retrospective screening of old photographs and slides, with videos and records of Coleford.
