LOCAL u3a music group The Singing Guitars will soon be putting on a charity show to raise money for Cancer Research.
U3a groups are for people who want to keep active, enjoy socialising, and are no longer in full time employment. The Singing Guitars, led by Charmain Gay, have been together for several years as an interest group part of the Norton Radstock u3a and have held many concerts to raise money for various charities. The Singing Guitars meet weekly to rehearse, learn new material for their many concerts and enjoy the camaraderie of the group. For their next charity concert, they are raising money specifically for those who suffer with pancreatic cancer.
Playing a variety of music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond, the group are sure to get toes tapping with popular covers from groups such as The Beatles, Queen and Abba. There will be music for the whole family to enjoy, and the group invite you to join in by singing along if you can!
Recently, The Singing Guitars have been performing a host of summer shows, including a performance for the Lions Club at St John’s Church in Midsomer Norton to raise money for The Children’s Hospice, alongside the Bath u3a Swing Band. They also played at Keynsham Rugby Football Club’s Dig Fest on Saturday June 29 to raise money for Bristol Bleed Kits before heading to the annual ‘Chilcompton Celebrates’ event on Saturday July 20, held at The Redan Inn.
Group Leader Charmain Gay said: “For the past few years, we have put on our own Christmas Charity Show, which has always been well supported. We raise money for many charities from very generous donations.
“This year, because we are already booked to do shows for other Christmas events, we decided to do a Summer Charity Show. Please come along and join us if you can, we would love to see you!”
The Singing Guitars’ Summer Charity Show will take place on Saturday August 10 at Chilcompton Village Hall from 2pm. Entry is free and money will be raised from the sale of raffle tickets and refreshments. Attendees are also welcome to leave extra donations if they so wish. All proceeds raised will be given to Cancer Research UK.
