Teachers from the National Education Union have taken to the picket lines today as they strike for better pay. Locally, 'Protect the Right to Strike rally' is taking place in Brunel Square, Bath, from 12:30pm-2:30pm today.

A list of places taking part in the 'Protect the Right to Strike rally' can be found here.

Here are the list of schools closed or partially closed due to strikes:

Bishop Henderson CofE Primary School, Coleford is partically closed.

Frome Community College: Open only to children of key workers and vulnerable children.

Norton St Philip CofE First School: partially closed, Reception Class is closed.

Paulton Primary School only have a couple of classes open

Norton Hill School

Somervale School

More than 100,000 teachers in 23,000 schools will be walking out across all the planned strike days for the union.

The NEU will be holding seven strike days which will affect schools in England and Wales.

The Government says that schools should try to stay open, but some schools may suffer partial closures.

In England, teachers do not need to declare that they are striking in advance, and head teachers will make the final decision about any closures that may happen.

There are no rules which say that parents have to be informed about closures prior to the strikes. It's possible that parents may only be informed of closures on the morning itself.

However, there are no minimum staffing rules for schools to remain open. The curriculum doesn't need to be taught on strike days, and head teachers can use volunteers and agency workers, if required, to man the fort.

The full emergency plan set out by the Government can be found here.
