A lot of you contacted us about last week’s Mystery Photograph, which showed a view of Radstock and St Nicholas Church.

Many thanks again to Radstock Museum for supplying the photographs.

Well done to Paul Hancock, Simon Chard,

Well done to Dave Seddon who said: “I think this photo is Radstock, taken from the Haydon direction.

“The Church centre left would be St Nicholas with Victoria Hall and the smoking chimney of Ludlows Colliery are also visible. Tyning off to the right.”

Many thanks to Roy Robinson who said: “This week’s photo is of Radstock, taken from the top of “Jubilee Tump”, off of Kilmersdon Road, believed to be named commemorating Queen Victoria’s Jubilee.

“My home was at Haydon, sometimes, if it was nice, we used to take the short cut up over the “Tump” to home.

“Some may not be aware that during WW2 it was an Air Raid warning post and after the war during the “Cold War” there was a Nuclear Monitoring Bunker dug at the top.”

This is our last publication of the year so we wanted to take the time to thank all of our readers for participating in the Mystery Photograph feature each week.

We really enjoy hearing your stories about the local area, old and new, and look forward to continuing the feature next year!

Perhaps a bit tricky, but can you guess this week’s Mystery Photograph?

A massive thank you to Radstock Museum for supplying brilliant photographs most weeks and making this feature happen!

We wish you all a very happy New Year.

If you have any old photographs of our area, we would love to see them. Please send them in to: [email protected] or post them to: The Journal, Paulton House, Old Mills, Paulton, BS39 7SX.
