Wells has been declared the most stylish place to live in Somerset, according to a recent survey by the online store Furniturebox. This picturesque cathedral city topped the list of the 60 most stylish locations in the county.

Following Wells in the rankings, Dunster secured second place, with Bath, Selworthy, and Mells taking third, fourth, and fifth places respectively. The survey assessed locations based on the aesthetic appeal of their buildings, stunning scenery, Instagram-worthy features, and popularity as filming locations.

Wells has been a favourite backdrop for numerous film and TV productions, including the BBC adaptation of Wolf Hall and the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Its charm and historical significance have made it a standout choice for both filmmakers and visitors alike.

Furniturebox conducted the survey by polling 5,000 people across major cities and counties, including Somerset.

Wells, recognised as the UK's smallest city, is renowned for its breathtaking cathedral, independent shops, and galleries.

A spokesperson from Furniturebox commented on the results, stating: "It is interesting to see how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 60, particularly around Somerset. It is a massive help for visitor numbers if a popular film or TV show uses a town or village as a location. Most of the locations in the top 60 are not the most affluent or fashionable in their localities. It shows that style can be achieved whatever your budget - and that is very true of furniture."

This survey highlights Wells not only as a hub of historical and architectural beauty but also as a beacon of style and charm, attracting visitors and residents who appreciate its unique allure.
