Six months of extensive work on Welton Baptist Church have come to an end to give the building a new lease of life.

The church will have a ‘launch day’ on Saturday, December 7. Everyone is invited to drop in at any point between 11am and 2pm to enjoy some festive treats, live music, crafts, face painting for children and a good look around.

Welton Baptist Church leader Matt Hebditch said: “People have been surprised that it’s not being turned into houses or office space.

“But, when we talk about a community space, where people can find friendship, hope, family, peace, fun and a good coffee, they begin to get a picture of where we’re headed as a church and our vision to be really engaged with local people, where we see faith as something everybody can benefit from together.”

Matt Coomes, who co-leads the church, said: “Whether it’s kids groups or youth, our Christmas carol service or people just stopping by to say hello, we’re expecting this building to make a difference in people’s lives.”

The refurbishment of every room in the building, alongside a new entrance lobby, cost just over £550,000.

It and has been made possible through the generous giving of people who are part of Welton Church, and many who have been connected with the church over the years.

The church is also very grateful for grants from a number of charities including: Garfield Weston Foundation, Benefact Trust, Norwood and Newton Settlement, Beatrice Laing Trust and Sabina Sutherland Trust.
