Welton Primary School, Midsomer Norton will welcome a special guest, Anastasia Tall, a displaced young Ukrainian woman who is now living with her two young sons in Bath, on Thursday, 20th July.

Anastasia was a piano and music teacher in her home country. Bath music man Grenville Jones introduced her to Welton headteacher John Snell.

“We wanted our children to understand more about Ukrainian culture rather than the conflict of war. This will be a very special day for our children.

“The school will be decorated with Ukrainian bunting and flags and the children will do artwork and drawings, all based on Ukrainian traditions. Anastasia will judge their artwork and talk about her homeland.

“She will also play the piano for some of our songs that the children will perform,” said Mr Snell.

Starting at 10am children from Welton Primary School will take part in song throughout the day, as well as sharing interesting facts they’ve learned about Ukraine and its culture. Some children will also perform a traditional Ukraine dance.

Everyone will enjoy a picnic together at lunchtime, before the day ends with a musical performance from the local Norton Radstock Good Afternoon Choir.
