SOMERSET residents have been warned heavy snow could bring chaos to parts of Somerset as the Met Office heightens its warning to amber.

Swathes of the South of England are gripped by a yellow warning for snow but the escalated alert focusing on Taunton, Wellington, parts of west Somerset, south Somerset, Devon and Cornwall will be in place from 2.30pm to 9pm today (January 9).

The Met Office says: “A spell of snow will result in travel disruption on Wednesday afternoon and evening.”

What to expect

Deputy Chief Forecaster, Chris Almond, said: “Thursday will see another cold night, with potentially the lowest temperatures of the Winter so far, -15°C or so is possible in locations with lying snow in Scotland or northern England.
