ON the evening of Summer Solstice, Friday, June 21, a large group of people will gather at the Stanton Drew Stone Circles to sing their determination to build a more beautiful world where all of life can thrive. They hope for at least 100 singers and are inviting local people to join them.
Wild Things Voices, based at Wild Things Farm, Pensford Lane, Stanton Drew, are a group of people who love to sing around campfires, under trees and while walking together. Now they want to spread the message that humans are part of nature, not separate from it, and that we can find nourishment, strength and creative solutions when we spend more time together in wild spaces.
They are launching a new movement - Back In Love With Life - which encourages people to fall in love with nature, and explore ways to experience more joy and fulfillment.
Sally Jenkins, guardian of Wild Things Farm, says, “There’s so much to worry about in the world, and in our future, but I think it’s important that we come together in collective empowerment and optimism to vision the world we want to co-create.”
The songs will be prepared by gathering together in nature and learning the music whilst inviting the energies of the trees, the soil, the river and the animals into the singers’ voices. There will be a number of rehearsals in the Chew Valley and Bristol, culminating in a big gathering at Wild Things Farm in the early evening of Friday, June 21. From there, the group will walk to the Stanton Drew Stone Circles to sing en masse as the sun sets.
On Saturday, June 22, the group will take their songs to London for Restore Nature Now - a large, legal, peaceful event being organised by the UK’s biggest wildlife and conservation charities, including The Wildlife Trusts and WWF.
Gathering in Hyde Park at noon, the singers will be supported by local musicians and a troupe of drummers. Wild Things Voices are inviting local people to be part of this special experience by joining in with the singing group or supporting as a team member. They are looking to fill a wide variety of roles, including event crew, artistic design and outreach. Attendance at the London event is optional.
