The forms of ID acceptable are skewed heavily in favour of older people, as many 18-25 year olds in the Somer Valley have neither passports nor driving licences, or, because of covid, may have been waiting months to get one. So it is really important to encourage them to get Voter Authority Certificates from a Council office.

Pity really, I was looking forward to producing my wartime ID card which for some reason my father failed to surrender. However, it does not have a photograph on it.

With so little electoral fraud in this country, and far more people deprived of their rights because they have not checked to see that they are on the electoral register, I can’t help wondering if this is not the government trying to introduce ID cards by the back door.
