One reader has written in to our letters column regarding the wild growth surrounding the greenway and other local public walks through nature.

I was saddened to read the letter “Clear our Greenway”.

I walk the greenway 2-3 times a week to enjoy the ever changing environment. To me, the beauty of all the wild plants, along with the incredible food source being provided for our wildlife is a clear sign that the preservation of nature is paramount and the work being done here should be congratulated. We are constantly being told about the damage that has been done to the environment, and that we need to do our best to help it recover - the greenway is a perfect example of this work.

The narrowest part of the greenway is a short stretch near the bridge in Welton, between the fir trees and the wire fence, but everyone is polite and understanding, and we can all pass. A little careful, sympathetic trimming is carried out but the underlying support for nature is excellent.

With regards to Wellow brook, I see a beautiful area with a brilliant balance between access and supporting nature. It’s a place where my young grandson can go and carry out his favourite hobby – bug hunting, giving him the chance to be part of the next generation looking after the planet.

I would like to thank whoever manages all of these areas for the wonderful work I see them doing.

My initial draft was far longer listing the flora and fauna I’ve seen, along with the boost to nature they are giving, but perhaps that’s for another time.
