Again this year I had an invitation to visit the Chew Valley Animal Park and Park View restaurant and bar.
We were lucky, the sun was shining, and off we went. As always, Chew Valley Animal Park did not disappoint - each time you go you see and learn new things. This time we were lucky enough to watch the tortoise having a bath and listen to a talk about their life in the wild. Did you know they hydrate themselves more through their shells? The talk was given by one of the very knowledgeable staff members who was happy to answer questions afterwards. It was very informative to listen to and we certainly learnt things we never knew.
Then we took a slow wander around the park looking at the animals basking in the sun.
We took my grandson who had just turned a year old and he certainly liked being able to have a good view of the animals, he stood for ages watching some of them, it certainly makes the day even better to see the smiles while they are enjoying the animals.
It doesn’t matter how many times I visit, the goats are still my favourite. Their personalities just shine through and I could stand there for hours and watch them, they’re so comical!
After spending time with the animals, we decided it was time for lunch, so went to the Park View Restaurant. It was quite busy as the sun was shining but wasn’t quite warm enough for the outside, as usual, the front of house staff were very helpful and friendly catering to all dietary needs and fussy eaters.
After a short wait, the food arrived and was spectacular. Hand-made pizza, jacket potato and a children’s meal that could feed an adult. All cooked fresh and very tasty indeed. Devoured by us all - including the grandson who had to try everything.
In the evenings they also have live music events in the restaurant. Check out their website or Facebook page for more information.
If you wish to pop along for a lovely meal in a great setting, check out the website for opening times and to view menus www.parkviewresturant.co.uk
I can never say it enough, this place is always an absolute pleasure to visit whether you’re with friends or family.
I think one of the reasons I like it the most is because it has such a calm atmosphere. The surroundings, the animals, the food, and the staff all make you feel welcome which all adds to the very tranquil setting of the park.
On our way out we stopped to browse in the on-site shop. Not only does it have toys but lots of local produce for sale as well. The shop certainly has something for everyone, especially if you like to buy locally made products.
Keep an eye out over the upcoming months, Chew Valley Animal Park will be welcoming new animals.
