MIDSOMER Norton’s hopes of winning promotion in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League suffered another blow when they lost by 51 runs away to Weston super Mare.
It was their fourth successive loss and they trail second-placed Congresbury by 15 points, both sides having only one remaining game to play.
Batting first after losing the toss, Weston scored 261 in their 41 overs with Davis Trego top scoring with 86, while Lachie Bailey scored 45, Jack Press 44 and Tahmid Ahmed 28.
Paul Robbins was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-62, while Harrison Veale snapped up 2-29.
Midsomer Norton got off to a poor start, losing openers Jake Roberts and Robbins with only 12 runs scored. However, the middle-order of Richard Staines (34), Alex Lear (33), Callum Harvey (50) and Adam Sylvester (51) played solidly but Midsomer Norton came up short at 210 all out in 40.4 overs.
Bailey took 3-30 in nine overs and Shabel Ahmed 3-55 in eight overs.
Elsewhere, leaders Downend remain top despite losing by six wickets away to Congresbury. Downend were bowled out for 141 while Congresbury stormed to an impressive victory with J Kearns scoring 74.
