It was the turn of the Somerset County Men’s team to enjoy the hospitality of Purnell Bowls Club this week, they played Wiltshire on the club’s superb surface and won a close encounter.

Both teams praised the organisation of the day and looked forward to returning during the coming seasons, the new club room looked splendid when arranged for the meal after the match.

The Charity Floodlight Bowls Competition is well underway, with games being played at Purnell, Norwest and Frome Selwood. The clubs would like to thank all their neighbours for their understanding while they are raising much-needed funds for local good causes.

It was the start of the club’s competitions last Saturday; Jan Dart managed to beat Jean Bridges in the Ladies’ Two Wood and in a very close Men’s Doubles game, Dave Meredith and Don Dart won against the pair of Bob White and Den Skehan, who put up a great fight.

Mike Pratt, John Mathews and Steve Amor put up a good show against a very good trio from Watchet, who, during the day, had already won the fours and pairs. The Purnell lads had to settle on Somerset County Triples runners-up 2016, a great achievement in itself. All the Somerset County Finals were played at Bloomfield Bowls Club last Sunday.

This Friday, Purnell Bowls Club welcome a visiting team from the Isle of Wight to their green, where there will be a warm welcome waiting for them. As the visitors are having a meal before they leave after the game, club members will have to wait a week before they can get their hands on the Jackpot Bingo £100 prize.

Last Tuesday was the first week the Bath branch of Parkinson group made use of the splendid indoor rinks at Purnell and they enjoyed the facilities very much. There is still time to enrol to play indoors throughout the winter, give Don a ring on: 01761 471019.
