Another impressive performance by the Purnell A Men’s team in the Premier Division of the Somerset County League.

Last Saturday, it was last year’s League Champions, Watchet, who were the visitors to Purnell.

In their ranks, they have many County players, the home side knew they were in for a tough afternoon, they coped very well with the shouting and back slapping by the visitors, early in the game, but after a few ends it all stopped when the Purnell lads took control.

Winning on two rinks and losing on one, winning on overall shot difference gave the home team a 10-2 points advantage, this win keeps the ‘Printers’ at the top of the league, with just four games to go.

In the Mid-Somerset League, Purnell travelled the short distance to Paulton, knowing they had already won the league, it proved to be a great game, Purnell winning on three rinks, losing on one, with the game finishing level on shots.

It was a very busy week, the Men playing again on Thursday at home against the very strong Ilminster team, in the County Final of the National Two rink. It was a step too far for them, losing on both rinks, but what an achievement for a small club like Purnell to get this far.

The Purnell Ladies’ team visited Fosseway in the Fear Plate and came away with a very good win, winning on two out of the three rinks, winning on overall shot difference, they now play Wells away this Friday.

Because of the Men’s great success this season, the games continue to come, this week they play Bath at home on Tuesday, in the quarter-final of the County Turnball Cup, then, on Wednesday, it’s the semi-final of the MidSomerset League playoff, at home against Wyrral Park, Glastonbury.

What a great season the lads are having, let’s hope the winning ways continue to the end of the season and perhaps, just perhaps, they can eclipse last year tremendous achievement.
