On Sunday morning our Junior Somerset Ladies, including local girl, Chloe Holmes, from Norwest Bowls Club, headed to Illminster to compete in the regional finals of the National Amy Rose competition.
On a sweltering day, the girls took to the green to play a team from Dorset.
Somerset’s expectations were high and our girls didn’t let us down, as with the scoreline at 50–17, Dorset conceded the game. With one win under our belt, the girls took time out for lunch and some much-needed cooling off time before the afternoon session began.
This time they were up against a side from Hampshire. With the temperature soaring, the two teams played on until once again Somerset’s opponents conceded the game. This time the score line stood at 45 –19.
The girls will now go on to Leamington Spa, on September 5th, for the semi- final and hopefully the final. After watching the standard of bowls today, in such extreme conditions, I’m sure our girls won’t let us down. So come on you Scrumpies: go get the silverware!
Many thanks go to Illminster Bowls Club for their brilliant hospitality. Not only did they supply an excellent lunch, but the supporters also enjoyed rink side waitress service for refreshments.
Also a great vote of thanks go to Celia and all the Somerset team leaders and to Mel, Don and Tony from Purnell for their hard work, dedication and
encouragement in training our local youngsters. NH
