MIDSOMER Norton maintained second place in the Bristol/|Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League with a crushing 118-run home victory over Wellington.
It enabled them to complete the season’s double over their Somerset rivals and to remain four points behind leaders Downend.
Batting first after losing the toss, Midsomer Norton scored 243-6 in their 50 overs with Finn Kelsey top scoring with 55, which included five fours. Callum Harvey, who scored the only six of the game, hit 49 before being run out while opener Paul Robbins made 46.
Sri Lankan Sachindu Colombage took 2-39, while Toby Stirzaker finished with the figures of 2-55.
Wellington, who have found batting a big problem after going through last season unbeaten in the Somerset Division, were in all sorts of trouble as Adam Sylvester bowled their top four batters, eventually finishing with figures of 4-19.
Colombage, coming in at No 6, top scored with 36 for Wellington which included seven fours, while skipper Arron Campbell was the next highest scorer with 16. Harvey took 2-33, Robbins 2-4 and Khwezi Gumede 1-42.
Downend maintained top spot with a two-wicket away victory over lowly Ilminster whose score of 268-6 proved a real challenge for the leaders.
