THIS year is a big one for Somerset County Cricket Club. It not only marks the 150th anniversary of the club’s formation but it is also the inaugural season of SCCC hosting both a full time professional men’s team and a women’s side.

There is just so much cricket to look forward to this coming summer; both men’s and women’s sides compete in three domestic competitions making a total of six trophies up for grabs.

Last summer Somerset’s men’s team competed strongly in each of the domestic competitions, reaching the finals in both the 20 and 50 over competitions, while in the championship they were well in contention almost until the end.

Eventually, of course, Somerset were left empty handed, but that experience will have galvanised the players who were involved in those disappointments and made them even more determined to be successful in 2025.

There has already been one success story for the club in 2025 - the SCCC 150th Anniversary book that was published just prior to Christmas is flying off the shelf. The 150 page A5 sized hard back book that is packed full of articles that capture the flavour of what Somerset CCC is all about, and is written by people who know what being part of the club really means.

Inside the pages are articles by a number of leading cricket writers including Scyld Berry, Paul Edwards, Anthony Gibson, Vic Marks, Stephen Lamb, Sam Dalling, and Richard Latham. There are also be contributions from the likes of Lord Botham, John Cleese, Lord Archer, Anya Shrubsole and Jos Buttler Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick on what Somerset means to them.

The book is now available from the Somerset County Sports Shop priced £24.99 and can be obtained by logging onto somersetcountysports.com.
