Other than the frost, fog and rain, it was near perfect conditions for the first official Seniors competition of 2023 at Farrington Park.
It has been an horrendous couple of months for golf clubs throughout the country. Greenkeepers have to make difficult decisions on whether to open or not and sometimes we feel that maybe if it was our decision we would have it open. But we have to look at the bigger picture and appreciate that in the long term the course will benefit from tees, greens and fairways being protected during the torrential rain and hard frosty conditions. Spring and Summer will soon be here and the course will be in excellent condition as a result of the right decisions being made.
The Senior section competed in a Multiplier with a good turnout of 66 players. Some excellent performances with the top 4 teams scoring 100 points or more.
In fourth place were the trio of Mike Woodward, Jeff Bruton and Steve Cockle with 100 points. Their highlight was a twelve pointer on the sixteenth hole. Third place went to Phil Thompson, Steve Banfield and Dave Brown with a score of 102 points. Runners up with 104 points were John ‘COYS’ Palmer, Martin Clark and Mike Rogers. An excellent score on the ninth with a birdie from John and a par from Mike.
The winners on an incredible 125 points were Des Hyland, Adrian Miller and Bob ‘Bandito’ Baker who scored 45 points all on his own!
Welcome back everyone. Enjoy 2023 and may the golfing gods be with you for another enjoyable year at Farrington.
