On another hot afternoon on Saturday, 4th August, Westhill Sports were the opposition for Tunley Athletic in the fourteenth annual Freda Hookings MBE Memorial Trophy game.
Freda was President of Tunley Athletic for over forty years, and First Lady Vice-President of the Somerset FA, and received her MBE in the Millennium New Year’s honours list for her services to the club.
The trophy was donated by Freda’s family to be played between Tunley and a local football club in a pre-season match. The result was a 6-0 win in Tunley’s favour. The Barry Gould trophy was awarded to Tunley’s Man of the Match, Martin Lewis.
Both Clubs would like to thank Keith (Flash) Lewis for refereeing the game once again. Players, friends and family gathered after the match for refreshments in Tunley’s Recreation Centre.
Tunley’s season starts this Saturday in the Uhlsport Somerset County League, away to Burnham United Reserves. Westhill Sports are in the Mid-Somerset League, which starts on Saturday, 1st September. Good luck wishes go to both teams for the season.
