PORTISHEAD Town stepped up the pressure at the top of the Premier Division in the Jewson Western Football League after beating struggling Torpoint Athletic 5-1 at home.

They are now only one point behind leaders Brixham AFC who were in FA Vase action, losing 4-0 away to AFC Stoneham.

Fellow Jewson League outfit Clevedon Twon also went out of the Vase, losing a penalty shootout 4-2 after the sides had drawn 1-1.

Barnstaple Town dropped back to third in the table after drawing 2-2 at home to Paulton Rovers.

Street kept in touch with the leading teams after gaining a 1-0 home victory over Nailsea & Tickenham who missed a chance of going up four places.

It is tight at the top with only one point separately the leading three sides, but Clevedon in fourth spot have games in hand on the teams above them.

It is a familiar story at the bottom of the table where Welton Rovers were beaten 4-0 at home by Saltash United. Welton have now played 23 games and have yet to pick up a point. They are 13 points adrift at the foot of the table and have little or no hope of avoiding relegation.
