Tunley Athletic Football Club is celebrating having a new member in its ranks and no-one is happier than club secretary Yvonne Dix.
At the club’s headquarters at the King William pub in the village, landlord and landlady, Tom and Jess Watson, have recently had a baby daughter, Daisy, and she is the first baby there since Yvonne herself came along 64 years ago.
The King William has been the centre of Tunley Football Club activities for most of its 104 year history and for much of that time, Yvonne’s family have run the establishment. Her parents, Jack and Freda Hookings, left the pub in 1962, but remained closely linked to the football club and Freda was awarded the MBE in 2000 for her services to the club and to the community as a whole. She was also the first lady to be made a Vice-President of the Somerset FA.
Mrs Dix said: “Daisy’s birth was a very special moment for me. It brought back many happy memories. We were delighted for Tom and Jess, who have been so supportive of the football club and have made the club members so welcome.”
