WELTON Rovers will be looking to avoid another heavy defeat in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western Football League when they play away to Paulton Rovers on New Year’s Day (3p.m.).

Rovers have lost all 25 of their league matches this season and have a goals deficit of 116. They are 16 points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Paulton, on the other hand, have moved up to eighth place in recent weeks - and still have an outside chance of promotion.

Meanwhile, top of the table Portishead Town play at home to Nailsea & Tickenham Town. Portishead have a two-point lead over second-placed Brixham AFC who have a tough away match against Barnstaple Town who are only one point behind them.

Only four points separate the top four sides with Clevedon Town, who do not play on New Year’s Day, in fourth spot with games in hand on all the teams above them.
