Paulton Rovers exited the Somerset Premier Cup after losing 3-1 to local rivals, Frome Town, on a chilly Tuesday evening.
In the past this fixture has produced some great games. The local rivalry, while intense, is generally respectful.
With the clubs heading opposite ways out of the Southern League Division One South last season, it looked like they wouldn't meet up again for some time.
But the semi-final of the Somerset Premier Cup gave Paulton the chance to matchup against the team now two divisions above for a game that would be much anticipated.
It was a promising start for Rovers too as Dan McBeam got a shot away in the first couple of minutes, although it skewed wide of the post.
Rovers continued to push forward with Kye Simpson and Milo Murgatroyd giving the Frome back line something to think about. But with a smart counterattack, Frome took the lead in the 8th minute when Rex Mannings drilled in a shot from the lefthand side of the box.
Rovers were undeterred and were level just four minutes later when DanMcBeam was pushed over in the box and dispatched the resulting penalty himself.
Frome retook the lead six minutes after that in somewhat controversial circumstances. The visitors won a corner on the right, although the ball had appeared to deflected off a Frome player last.
Rovers defended the cross, giving away a corner from the other side from which Matt Wood rose up highest to head in. It was a blow to Rovers who felt the the chance should never had come.
After a frenetic opening twenty minutes, the game settled. Rovers worked hard to create another opening but the Frome defence were equal to anything they could throw forward.
But the hosts were also restricting Frome from making further headway, although in the final seconds of the half, Frome thought they had a third from close range but it was disallowed after the ball was kicked from Dan Jackson's hands as he took in a shot.
So, as the second half opened, Rovers were still in the game and another promising start was made with both Corey Rawlings and Milo Murgatroyd having shots blocked early on.

As the half progressed though, Frome's extra class began to show and they started to manage the game somewhat although they themselves weren't making Dan Jackson work too hard in theRovers goal either.
That was until the 74th minute when a cross from the right could only be defended away to Elliot Dugan who swept the ball into the net.
With time ticking down, Rovers still worked hard to get back into the game but were unable to break down a stubborn Frome defence that were obviously used to playing strong attackers week in, week out.
Rovers had worked hard the entire game and given a good account of themselves and certainly weren't completely outplayed by the higher ranked opponents but ultimately, Frome progressed to the final.
Paulton Rovers turn their attention back to league matters, playing their final home game of the season on Saturday, March 22 against St Blazey, where the team will be celebrating non league day with reduced entry prices.
Tickets should be purchased at the bar and will be £5 for adults and seniors, £3 for those under 18, and kids under 12 go free with paying adult.
