Paulton threw away a two-goal lead with five minutes left after missing two penalties.
They had a goal disallowed in the eighth minute when Will Hailston appeared to have scored only for it to be ruled out.
The first penalty on thirty-eight minutes saw Dan Cottle brought down but Hailston’s spot kick was blasted way over the bar.
Rovers went ahead on forty-two minutes from a right wing corner by Ben Withey and centre-half, Craig Allan, headed home.
The early stages of the second half were scrappy but a neat between Ryan Gay Hailstone and Cottle saw a clearance from Dan Demkiv.
On fifty-three minutes, Cottle was brought down and Lee Ibrahim’s spot kick hit the crossbar and was cleared.
Then Rovers lost the inspirational Withey to injury.
Paulton look to have sealed the points as they added a second in the eighty-fifth minute as Hailston broke down the right and crossed for Cottle to stroke the ball home.
In the eighty-ninth minute, the visitors were awarded a free-kick that was funded home by Mike Baker.
A minute later, a deep cross from right back, Tom Warren, slipped through Sainsbury’s hands and into the net.
In added time, Paulton saw a deserve victory snatched into a defeat as Jake Thompson nodded home for a right wing corner to give the visitors a very surprised win.
Paulton Rovers’ First Team are home this Saturday, 31st October to Slimbridge, kick-off at 3 p.m.
On Wednesday, 4th November they are at home to Cirencester Town, kick-off 7.30 p.m.
The Reserves play on Saturday, 31st away to Coleford Athletic Reserves. Kick-off 2 p.m.
The Youth side play a friendly away to Radstock Town U18’s on Thursday 29th, kick-off at 7.30 p.m.
On Sunday, 1st November, the First Team are home to Banwell and the Reserves travel to Wellington, both kick-off at 2 p.m.
