PAULTON Rovers moved up to eighth in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western Football League with an excellent 4-0 home win over Brislington.

They opened the scoring after three minutes as Milo Murgatroyd broke down the left and hit a low firm shot into the visitors net. On ten minutes a good build up on the right involving Will Hailston and Billy Padfield set up Dan McBeam whose drive whistled over the crossbar.

Paulton lost Josh Ford to a recurring injury and was replaced by Tom Hands. On the half hour Rovers felt they should have had a penalty as Kyle Simpson fasten onto Sam Hill’s through ball and rounded Brislington keeper Jordan Schofield who brought him down. The referee adjudged that the ball had been knocked against Simpson.

However, two minutes later Simpson chased down a ball, rounded former Paulton player Jordan Ricketts and cut the ball back to Hailston who made no mistake to make it 2-0.

On the restart Brislington applied pressure on the Rovers defence and keeper Dan Jackson made two fine saves. It was 3-0 after 55 minutes as Simpson was fouled on the edge of the box and Jack Farion’s firm free kick found the top right hand corner of the net.

Jackson then made an absolutely unbelievable double save from Dean Griffith’s goal bound header. In the 78th minute Hill found Simpson who was unceremoniously chopped down in the penalty area but McBeam put his spot kick just wide.

Two minutes latter McBeam made up for his miss as sub Wayne Nderemani played him perfectly through on goal before shooting home for Paulton’s fourth.

This was a dominant performance by Rovers which they can take on to second placed Portishead on Saturday. Sam Hill was awarded Paulton Rovers player of the match.
