WELTON Rovers' away match against Wellington on Saturday was one of a number of games called off in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League because of the bad weather.

A pitch inspection was made early on in the morning following overnight rain before the decision was made.

Rovers were looking to avoid conceding the double against Wellington, having been unlucky to lose to them 1-0 earlier in the month after hitting the woodwork twice in a goalless first-half. Wellington won the game with a goal late in the match.

Only two premier division games managed to be played on Saturday. Bridgwater United slumped to a 4-0 home defeat against Buckland Athletic, while Portishead Town fought out a goalless home draw against Barnstaple Town.

It meant there was no change at the top of the table with Brixham AFC holding a five-point lead over Clevedon Town who have three crucial games in hand.

Welton are home to St Blazey on Saturday while Paulton Rovers entertain AFC St Austell.

Saturday's forthcoming fixtures - Jewson League, Premier Division: Brislington v Street, Buckland Athletic v Portishead Town, Clevedon Town v Brixham AFC, Oldland Abbotonians v Torpoint Athletic, Paulton Rovers v AFC St Austell, Shepton Mallet v St Blazey, Welton Rovers v St Blazey.
