For the first time in its long history, Timsbury Athletic have reached the final of the Somerset Senior Cup after a nailbiting victory away to Somerset County League Premier Division leaders Chilcompton Sports.
After the match finished level at 1-1 Timsbury kept their nerve to win the penalty shoot out 5-4.
The cup campaign began back in October with a 5-1 home win over Clevedon United Reserves and was followed by a 4-1 victory home to Highridge United. The next round saw Timsbury again show their expertise from the penalty spot winning another shoot out 5-3 after drawing 1-1 home to Yatton and Cleeve. Then came the best result of the lot at Chilcompton to earn a final place at Paulton Rovers ground on Wednesday May 3rd at 7.45pm against fellow Premier league side Middlezoy Rovers.
It is hoped that the whole village will get behind the club and turn up in force on May 3rd to hopefully cheer them to success.
The cup runs and poor weather has not made the preparation for the final easy for Timsbury with a hectic schedule of matches with four matches in a week for the last two weeks. In the recent fixtures in the Uhlsport Somerset County League Premier Division Timsbury secured an excellent 2-1 win away to Chilcompton with goals from Chris Midgley and Luke Seviour but followed that with a 2-1 home defeat against Keynsham Town Reserves with the in-form Midgley again on target. The weekend match saw Timsbury make the long trek to Watchet Town where they drew 2-2 thanks to goals from Matt Brooks and Toby Neilson. M Tucker
