This coming week, Welton Rovers play one of the highest profile fixtures in their recent history, when they face off against Evo-Stik National League South side, Bath City, in the Quarter-Final of the Somerset Premier Cup.

A dramatic 5–3 extra-time win over Southern League Larkhall Athletic in the last 16 earned Rovers the plum-tie, and their Vice-Chairperson, Gareth Paisey, believes the underdogs can cause another upset. “Since the draw was made, our players and supporters have been ravenously looking forward to the occasion.

“Twerton Park is an iconic stadium, and our lads aren’t going to miss the opportunity to impress in grand surroundings.

“We’re aware this is a far bigger fixture for us than it is for Bath City, and I hope this is reflected in the amount of people that come to root for us on the evening: supporters of the Green Army and those who want to see a Midsomer Norton side succeeding!”

Welton have reached the last eight for the first time since causing a huge upset to win the competition in 2010, a run which saw the side, under Mark Harrington’s management, beat Yeovil Town on the way to a penalty shoot-out victory over Bridgwater Town in the Final.

Welton Rovers are scheduled to play away at Calne Town in league action this Saturday 17th, and will hope the match survives the weather so they can go into Tuesday’s big encounter with all guns blazing.

Jaiden Savery is expected to miss out, having picked up a chipped ankle in the recent 3–0 win over Sherborne Town, but Alex Wych is returning to fitness at just the right time and will hope to slot in to replace him at right-back.

There are no other injuries or suspensions to report at this moment in time, so Manager, Clive Scott, should have plenty of options to choose from as he plots a way for his underdogs to triumph.

The Quarter-Final takes place at Twerton Park on Tuesday, 20th February, kick off 7.45 p.m. Admission £6 adults, £3 concessions.
