THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club have experienced mixed fortunes in the latest series of social matches.
Having beaten Kingweston 5-1 at home the team travelled with expectations for the return encounter but the outcome saw a 4.5-1.5 defeat. Howard Nowell and Malcolm Tucker were the lone winners with a 3&2 success with Nowell in particularly good form.
Dave Josham and Mike Weeks achieved a creditable half but that is where the good news ended. Acting captain Martyn Cuer and his partner Pauline Brixey were beaten 7&6, Chris Appleton and Steve Brixey lost 6&5 and there were 5&4 defeats for Graham Edgell and Paul Ellis and a 5&3 loss for Phil Winsley and Malcolm Emery.
Cannington away is a notoriously difficult proposition but Fosseway played some fine golf to win 4.5-1.5. Edgell and Weeks recorded the most convincing victory winning 7&5 and Andy Flagg and Cyril Blacker were equally impressive coming home 5&4 victors. Cuer and Winsley won 3&2 and Josham and Paul Trigg finished a close match one up. Appleton and Ellis halved their match but there was defeat for acting captain Alan Jones and Allen Cheney who lost 3&2.
