The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club experienced mixed fortunes in their recent social matches with a 4.5-1.5 defeat away to Kingweston followed by a convincing 4.5-0.5 victory at home to Cannington.
Captain Frank Dance and his partner Chris Appleton led the way at Kingweston with a 2&1 success but apart from Graham Edgell and Mike Ricketts, who halved their match, the other pairings came off second best. In a close encounter,
Martyn Cuer and Mike Weeks ended just one down, Paul Trigg and Paul Ellis and Brian Phelps and Malcolm Tucker both lost 2&1 while Phil Winsley and Cyril Blacker were beaten 5&3.
The home match with Cannington saw a number of dominant performances. Alan Jones and Alan White won their match 5&4, Harold Lidbitter and Weeks finished their match as 4&3 victors while Trigg and Ellis were 3&2 up at the end. Blacker and Cuer recovered from their Kingweston losses to win 2 up while Winsley and Tucker ended a close match all square.
The Seniors Charity Trophy day proved to be a memorable one for Appleton and Phelps who won the pairs Texas Scramble with a nett 61.
Blacker and Weeks came in second with a nett 63 beating off the challenge of Jones and Dave Peacey who also scored 63 but finished third on countback.
The charity event raised £100 and will be forwarded to the RUHX appeal at the RUH Bath.
