THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club shared a very special day on Saturday, June 15, with one of its life members Geoff Weeks.
Geoff, who continues to come to the Centurion Hotel to follow the club’s fortunes, has reached 100 years of age and a party took place at the hotel with family and friends. The centenarian, who was a very good golfer, remains in very good health and senior members are always delighted to see him.
The seniors continued their good start to the season with a convincing 5-1 win at home to Kingweston. Chris Appleton and Richard Sullivan set the pattern with a 7&5 win and there were 3&2 victories for Mike Ricketts and Mike Weeks, Malcolm Tucker and John Bendle and Martyn Cuer and Phil Winsley. Acting captain Paul Trigg and Paul Ellis finished one up and the only pair to come second were Frank Reeves and George Thurston..
The June monthly medal was combined with the Rod Bruce Scratch competition. The monthly medal saw Ricketts take first place with a nett 67 with Alan White one shot behind and Tucker third with a nett 69. White’s gross score of 80 was enough to see him claim the Rod Bruce Cup.
