Mendip’s Club Championships saw the course in fine order. Despite its challenging set up for optimal competition, play resulted in some very high scores.

In the Men’s Championship, Day 1 saw a tie for 1st place between Jack Vowell and Jack Broadway on 2 over gross, with joint third one shot behind being Stuart Ponfield and Daniel Owen. In round two, Stuart recorded a fine par 71 to secure the championship with 145. Both Jacks recorded 75’s in round two to finish on 148, with Jack Vowell second on count back and last year’s champion Scott Butland fourth on 151. The Frost Cup for the best net score went to Kerry Archibald with a 36 hole total of 6 under par.

The Ladies Club Championship saw a runaway win for Aimee Sawyer with a 36 hole score of 3 over par. Two youngsters, Sienna Elliott and Connie Cox, occupied second and third spots. The Ladies Net Championship went to Pippa Brown with a 1 over par 151 with Connie Cox second.

Division 1 of the midweek stableford went to George Morgan with 40 points, Jonathan Watts was second, Ian Perkins third. Division 2 was won by Peter Grafton with 40, Kerry Archibald was second, Thomas Rowland third. Division 3 went to Faquhar Ogilvie with 39, David Collins was second with 33 after count back from Mike Tout.

The Ladies Bowmaker was won by Vi Hayes/Anita Butcher/Julia Phillips/Pauline Williams with 79 points, 10 points clear of second placed Fran Davies/Wendy Collins/Maureen Charlton/Pauline Young.

The Ladies Friendly Team visited Worlebury. Ann Collins/Debbie Godwin managed a win for Mendip, who remain in third spot. The ICL Ladies Team had a fine 6-1 win over Oake with wins from Carol King, Fiona Hassard, Anita Butcher, Suzy Rudkin and Ali Kay.

Nearest the Pin went to Andy Wells.

The Seniors Captain Tony Scott had the support of 74 Seniors on his away day held at Lyme Regis. The away day Cup was won by John Brooksbank on count back, the best of 6 players on 33.

The Seniors had a fine win when visiting Tidworth for the second leg of the annual Tidworth Trophy match, 4½-2½. Wins came from Steve Davis/Henry Banks, Tony Scott/Alan Edwards, Ken Langridge/John Stembridge and Gary Quin/Paul Godwin with a half gained by Paul Wood/Ian Whittamore.
