COMPETITION secretary Chris Appleton took the honours in the December medal in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club with an excellent nett score of 65.
The groundstaff had worked wonders to make the event possible after more heavy rain but Appleton made light of the testing conditions. In second place came fixture secretary Howard Nowell with a nett score of 67 with Paul Ellis third on 69.
Secretary Alan Jones and Shaun Goodwin headed the qualifiers for the Guerwyn Thomas Trophy with a nett score of 66. Two shots behind them in the greensomes strokeplay came Ellis and George Thurston with 68 with Martyn Cuer and Frank Reeves third with a nett 69.
The other five qualifiers were Allen Cheney and Malcolm Tucker (nett 70), Nowell and Paul Trigg (nett 71), Appleton and Steve Brixey (nett 71), Mike Weeks and Andy Flagg (nett 73) and Pauline Brixey and Noel Chatfield (nett 74).
In the quarter-finals Jones and Goodwin will face Brixey and Chatfield, Ellis and Thurston will battle it out with Weeks and Flagg. Cuer and Reeves meet Appleton and Brixey and Cheney and Tucker compete with Nowell and Trigg.
