It was a golden day for Graham Edgell when the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club held its Annual Open Day. Playing on his home course, he was five points clear of the field with his Stableford total of 47, which earned him the Colin Eaton Cup, and was the only player to gain a two spot. To cap his day, he combined with Mendip members, J. Pugh and M. Lambert, for the best triples total. Brian Francis, from Mendip, was the top visitor with forty points.

Pat Cray, from Fosseway, (42 points) finished top of the 0-18 handicap section with fellow club members, Roger Parfitt and Mike Ricketts, in second and third place. Bob Smith, from Fosseway (40 points), headed the 19-28 handicap section with ex-club member, John Wighton, who now plays at Ashley Wood, second and Fosseway’s Geoff Hallett, third.

It was a Fosseway one, two, three in the Over-70s group, with Cyril Blacker top with forty points, followed by Competition Secretary, Brian Phelps and Reg Curtis.

Mike Passingham, of Orchardleigh, won the prize for the longest drive. Hallett was nearest the pin on the first, Eric Jordan from Mendip was closest on the fourteenth, with Fosseway’s Malcolm Tucker nearest the pin on the sixteenth.

Overall, it was another highly successful event with thanks to organisers, Gerry Rowell and Terry Button and their helpers, notably the ladies, who co-ordinated the entries and results and the Fosseway grounds staff.
