THE Ladies' section at Orchardleigh Golf Club have enjoyed their Lady Captain's Day organised by Lin Handley.

The ladies went out in groups of three playing a Bowmaker, but they came upon surprises on many holes having to putt with a 1930s putter on the 3rd and driving with the same era club on the 8th.

Then it moved to 1950s clubs for putting on the 10th and driving on the 15th. They had to putt with drivers on the 13th and no putters at all on the 18th. It was an underarm throw to sink the final ball.

Despite the idiosyncrasies and some inclement weather, good scores came in with the winning team Liz South, Sheila Goodbody and Carol Weightman achieving 87 points.

In second place with 82 points were Christine Arnold, Ann James and Penny Naish. There was a prize for nearest the line on the 5th which went to Pat Jones and nearest the pin on the 7th went to Vron Jefferies.

The prizes were awarded after a buffet lunch which was much enjoyed by everyone, including a small group of ladies who didn't play golf but joined in the meal. Some non-playing ladies manned the halfway house, where some delicious goodies sustained everyone during their round.
