MENDIP”S Avalon C team kept up their good form with a home 3-2 win against Wheathill, meaning they have completed the season with 100% home record. Wins came from Dan Owen/Tom Black (Dan giving 19 and 21 shots to the opponents), Malcolm Srawley/Joe Cox and Gary Quin/Jon Cox. Two away games follow with good results needed for promotion.

Forty-one ladies played in the qualifying Stableford which saw a win for Carol King (20) with 39 points, Aimee Sawyer (+1) was 2nd with 38, Maureen Charlton (20) was 3rd with 36 and Gina Howard (30) was 4th with 35.

Aimee created a new ladies course record with her 3 under par round having started by dropping shots on the first two holes! A further 11 ladies played in the 9 hole event won by Sue Alcock with 20 points with Eileen Masters 2nd with 18.

The Ladies ICL team suffered a heavy defeat when visiting Wheathill with a sole half gained by Ali Kay. However the Alliance A team had a great win when beating Saltford 7-0 away with wins from Aimee Sawyer, Ellen Reakes, Jinhee Page, Evie Thatcher who was making her debut, Marian Speed, Lynne Vowles and Fran Davies. It just shows what can be achieved when Mendip’s strongest players are available.

We seem to be playing Wheathill a lot recently. This time the Seniors Avalon team visited and went down to a narrow 2-3 defeat with wins from Simon Brand/Paul Godwin and Gary Quin/Kevin Carmody.

The Seniors Rosebowl team also suffered a narrow defeat in the quarter finals when visiting Taunton & Pickeridge 2-3. Wins came from Chris White/Gary Quin and Steve Davis/Nick Parfitt. The Seniors Friendly Team went down 3-5 to Long Ashton, wins from Stephen Cox/Keith Gadsden, Tony Scott/John Scott and Roland Greenway/Alan Edwards.

Ninety-nine seniors played in the King’s Coronation Salver which saw a further win for Andy Parfitt with 39 points after count back, that makes two wins and a third in the Seniors main competitions this season.

Full results were Div 1 was won by Brian Smith with 39, John Stembridge was 2nd with 35 after count back from Ian Perkins. Div 2 went to Mike Lill with 39, Alan Williams was 2nd with 37 after count back from Phillip Bissett and Div 2 was won by Andy Parfitt with Chris Bennett 2nd with 35 after count back from Andrew Cadman.
