MIDSOMER Norton play their last match of the season in the Somerset/Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League on Saturday, August 31, knowing their hopes of promotion do not rest entirely with them.
Midsomer Norton must beat second placed Congresbury fairly comfortably and hope that third-placed Golden Hill lose at home to Wellington, which is highly unlikely as theirr opponents have already been relegated.
Downend are already certain of promotion as the new champions of the division, despite losing their latest match against Congresbury .
Midsomer Norton, who have lost some thrilling games recently, missed out on a chance of going second when they lost by 51 runs away to Weston super Mare who are still not sure of avoiding relegation. Ilminster are the other side still not sure of avoiding the drop despite their nine-wicket away victory over Wellington.
Ilminster are home to Clevedon this coming Saturday while Weston have a tough game away to Downend.
Taunton Deane, who have won their last four matches, could survive going down if they beat Keynsham at home. However, it would be a remarkable achievement because they look certainies for another relegation season only a month ago.
